PASADENA, Calif. – No. 4 Alabama (12-1, 8-0 SEC) will play top-ranked Michigan (13-0, 9-0 Big Ten) today in the Rose Bowl semifinal. The Crimson Tide and Wolverines will face off at Rose Bowl Stadium, and the playoff game is set to kick at 4:10 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Alabama and Michigan will meet for just the sixth time in the history of the two storied programs. The Crimson Tide owns a 3-2 all-time advantage overall with the teams tied at 2-2 in bowl matchups. The Tide and Wolverines last met in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day 2020, with UA claiming a 35-16 victory.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban is 4-3 all-time against UM, including a 2-0 mark with the Crimson Tide. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is 0-1 against Alabama with the lone contest coming in that Citrus Bowl pairing.

PREGAME

— The officiating crew for the Rose Bowl is from the Big 12 and will be led by Michael Vandervelde.

— Players not in uniform include Earl Little II (shoulder), DeVonta Smith (foot) and Yhonzae Pierre. Pierre had his right arm in a sling.

— We will see if it holds up, but Elijah Pritchett is working at left tackle with the first-team OL in pregame. Kadyn Proctor is with the twos.

— Kadyn Proctor is back at left tackle with the ones for full-team drills.

— Alabama wins the toss and elects to defer to the second half. Michigan will receive the opening kickoff.

FIRST QUARTER

— Caleb Downs picks off JJ McCarthy on Michigan’s first offensive play.

— After review, Caleb Downs’ INT is wiped off the board. Huge break for Michigan after a horrible start.

— Terrion Arnold breaks up a third-down pass, and Alabama forces a three-and-out to start the game.

— Kadyn Proctor starts the game at LT. Roydell Williams starts at RB.

— Michigan drops Jalen Milroe for a 13-yard sack on Alabama’s first offensive snap.

— Jalen Milroe is sacked twice in the first three plays, and UA will punt.

— Semaj Morgan muffs the punt, and Quandarrius Robinson jumps on it. Alabama takes over at the UM 44.

TOUCHDOWN: Alabama 7, Michigan 0 (9:41)

— Jase McClellan makes a man miss and sprints to the end zone for a 34-yard score.

— On 4th and 1 at the Alabama 39, Michigan goes for it and picks up the first on a Blake Corum run.

TOUCHDOWN: Alabama 7, Michigan 7 (4:23)

— JJ McCarthy hits an open Blake Corum for 8 yards.

— Jalen Milroe scrambles but slides short of the sticks for an 8-yard gain. UA will punt from its own 32.

— James Burnip was down after a Michigan player ran into his right leg. He just walked off the field under his own power. But no flag was thrown.

SECOND QUARTER

— Back-to-back sacks on Milroe to bring up 3rd and 24. Michigan has four sacks in the first 17 minutes.

— James Burnip back on the field for Alabama’s third punt of the game.

— Michigan bottles up Jalen Milroe on a third-down run, and that marks three straight three-and-outs for the Alabama offense.

— Double pass from Michigan picks up 20 yards to the Alabama 38. But JJ McCarthy took a shot from Dallas Turner on the second one.

TOUCHDOWN: Michigan 13, Alabama 7 (3:49)

— Tyler Morris with a 38-yard catch and run from JJ McCarthy to take the early lead. The PAT was no good.

— What a throw and catch by Jalen Milroe and Isaiah Bond. A 29-yard gain to the Michigan 45 was only the third first down of the game.

— Jalen Milroe calls his own number and picks up 17 yards and a first down to the Michigan 32-yard line.

— Jalen Milroe dropped for his fifth sack of the game to bring up 4th and 10 at the Michigan 32. UA will try a kick after the timeout.

FIELD GOAL: Michigan 13, Alabama 10 (0:07)

— Will Reichard boots a 50-yarder through the upright.

— With that field goal, Will Reichard has tied Leigh Tiffin for the most career FGs by an Alabama kicker. It was Reichard’s 83rd made field goal on his 99th attempt. Tiffin needed 111 tries to get to 83.

THIRD QUARTER

— Alabama opens the 2H with Jam Miller and Justice Haynes in the backfield beside Jalen Milroe.

— Justice Haynes picks up 9 yards and a first down on his first carry.

— Justice Haynes with another first-down run. He lost his shoe at the end of the play and had to jog off.

— Back-to-back bad snaps made it 3rd and 29 for Alabama at its own 34. What looked like a promising drive will now end in a punt.

— After a review, Cornelius Johnson was ruled in-bounds, so the Wolverines move the chains rather than punt inside their own 20.

— JJ McCarthy hits Tyler Morris, but he falls down short of the sticks. Michigan will punt from its own 34.

— Jalen Milroe can’t connect with Jam Miller, and Alabama will punt from its own 27. That’s UA’s fifth three-and-out of the game so far.

— Alabama’s defense responds by forcing a three-and-out of its own. After the timeout, the Tide will start out at its own 45-yard line.

— Jalen Milroe with some wizardry to escape pressure and pick up the first down. Alabama at the UM 28.

FOURTH QUARTER

— Nice play call. Nice gain by Jalen Milroe. Tide is inside the UM 5.

TOUCHDOWN: Alabama 17, Michigan 13 (14:30)

— Jase McClellan with his second rushing score of the game, this one a 4-yard run.

— Donovan Edwards drops a third-down pass, and Michigan will punt from its own 26 with 13:40 to go.

— Jalen Milroe fumbles the ball, and Michigan recovers it at its own 49. Huge break for the Wolverines.

— Michigan tried to set up a flea flicker, but the pitch back to JJ McCarthy fumbles. Wolverines fall on it up to bring up 3rd and 17.

— Michigan’s James Turner misses a 49-yard field goal attempt, and Alabama takes over at its own 31.

— Heck of a run by Jase McClellan — 17 yards to the Michigan 48. He’s had a good game with 92 yards and 2 TDs on 12 carries (7.7 ypc).

— Jalen Milroe is sacked for the sixth time today, bringing up 4th and 14 at the Michigan 34. FG try coming.
