TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 3 Alabama will play host to No. 11 Texas in a highly-anticipated matchup in Week 2 of the 2023 season. The Crimson Tide and Longhorns will face off at Bryant-Denny Stadium, and the non-conference game will kick off at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Alabama and Texas will meet for the 11th time in series history and just the second time ever in Tuscaloosa when the two teams square off tonight. The Longhorns hold a 7-2-1 advantage in the series with both losses coming in the previous two meetings between the storied programs. This Saturday’s contest will be Texas’ first trip to Tuscaloosa since 1902. Alabama head coach Nick Saban is 2-1 for his career against Texas, including a 2-0 mark while with the Crimson Tide. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is 0-1 against Alabama with the lone matchup coming last year in Austin, Texas, a 20-19 loss for the Longhorns.

PREGAME

— Malachi Moore and Jaylen Key are both dressed out and going through warmups. Key has a brace and sleeve on his right knee.

— Jihaad Campbell (knee) is going through drills after missing Week 1. Deontae Lawson and Trezmen Marshall are leading the inside linebackers in pregame warmups.

— Jaylen Key and Malachi Moore were just announced as starters on the videoboards at BDS. Moore was just on the field for the first 7-on-7 work, playing safety in Alabama’s base defense. Key came on at safety in nickel, while Moore moved down to Star.

— Alabama wins the toss and elects to defer the second half. Texas will receive the opening kickoff.

FIRST QUARTER

— On 4th and 5 from the Alabama 43, Texas lines up to go for but calls a timeout but takes a delay of game. Longhorns down the punt at the Crimson Tide’s 3.

— Jalen Milroe throws it into traffic and is picked off. Texas takes over at the Alabama 30-yard line.

— On 4th and 2 from the Alabama 12, Texas goes for it and moves the sticks on a Ewers rollout. UT with 1st and Goal at the Tide 6.

— Tim Smith shaken up on the play. After trainers attended to him, he is up and walking to the sideline medical tent under his own power.

FIELD GOAL: Texas 3, Alabama 0 (4:42)

— Bert Auburn boots a 22-yarder through the uprights for the first points of the evening.

— Tim Smith is out of the medical tent and back on the bench with his fellow defensive linemen.

— Back-to-back first-down runs by Jalen Milroe and Jase McClellan and Alabama is across midfield.

— On 4th and 3 from the Texas 42, Alabama goes for it, and Jalen Milroe hits Malik Benson over the middle to move the chains.

SECOND QUARTER

FIELD GOAL: Alabama 3, Texas 3 (14:55)

— Will Reichard boots a 42-yarder through the uprights.

— Jihaad Campbell at ILB alongside Deontae Lawson to being UA’s third defensive series of the game.

— Terrion Arnold flagged for PI on a double pass. Texas has it at the Alabama 44 after the penalty.

TOUCHDOWN: Texas 10, Alabama 3 (13:26)

— Quinn Ewers hits Xavier Worthy for a 44-yard score.

— Jalen Milroe is sacked on 3rd and 7. Tide will punt from its own 32.

— James Burnip with a 61-yard punt that was downed at the Texas 7.

— Justin Eboigbe grabs CJ Baxter’s facemask for a 15-yard penalty. Longhorns now at their own 22.

— Kendrick Blackshire now in at ILB beside Lawson. Alabama has now used four different inside ‘backers.

FIELD GOAL: Texas 13, Alabama 3 (4:05)

— Alabama finally gets a stop on third down, forcing Bert Auburn to attempt a 29-yard FG.

— Jalen Milroe takes off on a QB draw for 20 yards to the Alabama 45.

— Milroe escapes the pocket but can’t move the chains. Alabama will punt from its own 47 with 2:20 to play in the second quarter.

— James Burnip pins Texas inside its own 10-yard line. Horns take over at their own 9 with 1:58 in the 1H.

— Texas goes three-and-out and will punt from its own 10 with 1:44 left to play win the second quarter.

— Jalen Milroe connects with Kobe Prentice over the middle for a 28-yard gain to the Longhorns’ 32.

— Touchdown is wiped after Darrian Dalcourt was flagged for being downfield. Third and 15 from the UT 20 coming up with 0:13 left.

FIELD GOAL: Texas 13, Alabama 6 (0:00)

— Will Reichard boots a 30-yarder through the uprights.

THIRD QUARTER

— Jalen Milroe looks deep and hits Isaiah Bond for a 34-yard pickup to the Longhorns’ 35-yard line.

— That’s two Jermaine Burton TDs wiped away by penalties — this one on a hold on Kadyn Proctor.

FIELD GOAL: Texas 13, Alabama 9 (11:04)

— Will Reichard boots a 51-yarder through the uprights.

— Kristian Story opens the 2H at safety in place of Caleb Downs.

— Defense forces a three-and-out to open the third quarter. Texas will punt from its own 21-yard line.

— Texas called for pass interference on a deep shot from Jalen Milroe to Isaiah Bond. That was UT’s third flag of the night (30 yards). UA has 7 penalties for 65 yards.

— Jalen Milroe’s third-down pass is a hair to far for Jase McClellan to pull in. Alabama punts from its own 41. It’s downed at the Texas 6.

— Caleb Downs is back on the field after missing one defensive drive.

— Bert Auburn misses a 42-yard FG attempt. Alabama will take over at its own 24 after the TV timeout.

— Jalen Milroe is sacked on 3rd and 14, and Alabama will punt for the fourth time tonight, this time from its own 14.

— After review, Texas is awarded the first down on 4th and 1 after Quinn Ewers fumbles and it’s scooped up and advanced by RB Jonathan Brooks.

— Alabama’s defense stops Brooks short of the line to gain on 4th and 2. The Tide will take over at its own 41. No official review.

— Jalen Milroe calls his own number and picks up the first to move the Crimson Tide into Texas territory.

TOUCHDOWN: Alabama 16, Texas 13 (0:14)

— Jermaine Burton finally has a TD catch that will count after hauling in a 49-yard deep shot from Jalen Milroe.

FOURTH QUARTER

TOUCHDOWN: Texas 20, Alabama 16 (14:05)

— Big play leads to a 7-yard TD from Ewers to Mitchell.

— Jalen Milroe throws it right to the Texas DB, who returns it down to the Alabama 5. An awful throw.

TOUCHDOWN: Texas 27, Alabama 16 (13:50)

— One play after the INT, Jonathan Brooks adds to the UT lead with a 5-yard TD run.

— Jalen Milroe finds Malik Benson over the middle on 3rd and 17 for a 27-yard gain to move the sticks.

TOUCHDOWN: Texas 27, Alabama 24 (11:08)

— Jalen Milroe finds Amari Niblack across the middle, and the tight end does the rest on his way to a 39-yard score. The 2-point conversion is good.

— Jordan Whittington crossed the 50 after a 31-yard catch and run. Longhorns back in UA territory.

TOUCHDOWN: Texas 34, Alabama 24 (8:23)

— Quinn Ewers finds an open Adonai Mitchell for a 39-yard score to take a 10-point lead.

— Jalen Milroe is sacked for the fifth time tonight. Alabama goes three-and-out and will punt the ball back to Texas, down 34-24, with under 8 minutes left to play.
