Alabama football names Student-Athletes of the Week for March 31
Last week, Alabama football released its first Student-Athletes of the Week list for the spring. The names included two transfers (Jahmyr Gibbs and Eli Ricks) and a five-star freshman with Jihaad Campbell. On Thursday, we were given a new list of names for the week leading up to March 31.
That group consists of two rising sophomore offensive linemen in Jaeden Roberts and Tommy Brockermeyer, as well as a junior pass rusher in Chris Braswell.
During their first seasons on campus, neither Roberts nor Brockermeyer saw any game action. That could change in 2022, however, with Evan Neal and Chris Owens off to the NFL. Their departures create two openings, and Roberts and Brockermeyer are two candidates looking to fill those voids left behind.
As a freshman, Roberts did find himself on the two-deep roster.
Considering he was the lowest-rated of five offensive linemen signed in Alabama’s 2021 recruiting class, that shocked a few people. But maybe it shouldn’t have. Roberts is a hard worker, which is reflected by some of the changes he’s made to his body since arriving in Tuscaloosa.
As a high school senior, Roberts was 6-foot-5, 340 pounds.
He showed up to Alabama and checked in on the first roster update at 328 pounds. Now heading into his sophomore year, the changes have become even more drastic. Last month, Roberts was listed at 302 on the spring roster update. Those 26 pounds are the most lost by an Alabama player. Impressive.

For Brockermeyer, his journey has been a little bit different.
As a Five-Star Plus player coming out of All Saints Episcopal in Fort Worth (Tex.), some thought he’d push for immediate playing time in his first season. Instead, he spent his freshman season getting bigger, stronger and more comfortable playing in Alabama’s system. Now, he’s ready to challenge for a larger role in Year 2.
And as for Braswell, we’ve talked about him extensively on this site.
Will Anderson and Dallas Turner are listed ahead of him on the depth chart, and that somewhat caps his potential heading into his third season. But he’s still proven to be an effective pass rusher on a per-snap basis and will hopefully be a little more involved in 2022.
Apparently, all three of these guys are also getting the job done in the classroom. That makes this a deserving group for Student-Athletes of the Week. Congratulations to each of them.
