Before Alabama takes the field for its first spring football practice of the Kalen DeBoer era this afternoon, the Crimson Tide updated its online roster to reveal jersey numbers for new players as well as new digits for several of the returning players from UA’s 2023 roster.

Multiple numbers were up for grabs following offseason departures, including Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 11. All but No. 2 was scooped up, but things can still change before the season.

Four of Alabama’s returning players changed numbers, all of them on the defensive side of the football. For the first time, a Tide player will sport No. 0 – linebacker Deontae Lawson.

Jersey numbers for UA’s 26 newcomers were also revealed, with five of them claiming single-digit numbers. One new jersey number of note belongs to freshman defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., who will wear No. 21 – the same his dad wore for the Crimson Tide.

The roster also shows two freshman defensive backs, Zabien Brown and Red Morgan, listed as No. 15, which means they can’t be on the field together. But we are told that was an error on the initial release. Brown will wear No. 15, but Morgan will begin his career in No. 16.

Heights and weights were not updated before spring practice.

In addition to the numbers, Alabama also added four players who were not previously on the online roster before today’s first practice, including junior receivers Andre Craig (Kennesaw State) and Colby Cruz (Georgia Military College), sophomore running back Darien Clayborne (Iowa Central C.C.) and sophomore linebacker Jonathan Turner (Citronelle).
