Alabama football sets start date for fall practice
The Alabama football team officially has a start date for its first fall practice. With the season opener against Utah State just over a month away on Sept. 3, the Crimson Tide will return to the practice field exactly 30 days prior to that date, which is on Thursday, Aug. 4.
There’s obviously a lot of excitement surrounding this 2022 Alabama squad.
In fact, a lot of people, including the VegasInsider Consensus at +181, has Alabama as the favorite to win yet another national title under head coach Nick Saban. Ohio State currently checks in behind them at No. 2 (+332) with Georgia sitting at No. 3 (+370).
When you look at the Crimson Tide’s roster and overall team makeup, those odds shouldn’t be surprising. Alabama returns arguably the two best players in college football, one on offense and one on defense, in quarterback Bryce Young and outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr.

Not only that, but the defense is projected to be one of — if not — the top units in the nation. Plus, the Crimson Tide managed to bring in the No. 2 recruiting class and five potential impact starters from the transfer portal to replinish its depth chart.

Here’s a look at the On3 transfer portal rankings for those five players:
- Jahmyr Gibbs: No. 3 overall / No. 1 RB
- Jermaine Burton: No. 6 overall / No. 2 WR
- Eli Ricks: No. 8 overall / No. 1 CB
- Tyler Harrell: No. 66 overall / No. 14 WR
- Tyler Steen: No. 91 overall / No. 7 OT
Add in that Alabama returns both of its coordinators (Bill O’Brien and Pete Golding) and it’s a recipe for success. Granted, the games still have to played on the field, which is some variation of what Saban would tell you if you were to ask about all the potential with this group.
The title run towards national championship No. 7 since the 2009 season is set to begin on Aug. 4. Stay tuned as BamaOn3 starts to ramp up its coverage ahead of Alabama’s fall camp, including question marks we have and positon group previews on The BamaOn3 Show.
