Fans have now gone over a month and a half without Alabama football, but don’t worry, spring practice is just around the corner. With that comes an updated roster from the team’s official website that now includes the recent signings who have already enrolled for the spring.

This list of incomers includes 22 freshman, two transfer portal additions and two JUCO signees.

Below, we’ve got all of the heights and weights for those latest additions. Plus, we’ve added a few of our initial observations from the release. We should note that these guys still don’t have numbers yet. Check it out and then head on over to the Talk of Champions message board to let us know your thoughts.

Quick notes/observations

– Alabama still has veteran center Darrian Dalcourt listed on the updated roster as a graduate student. That’s significant news, as there were questions about the team’s depth behind projected starter Seth McLaughlin. With Dalcourt expected to be healthy in the spring, we may have another center competition brewing. That’s good news for everyone involved.

Justin Eboigbe is also still on the Alabama roster. Granted, this was expected after some offseason hints by the fifth-year defensive lineman, but this confirms it. Now the next step is determining where he’s at with his health after a season-ending neck injury in late September. Either way, this is an important keep for the Tide, as Eboigbe is a veteran, experienced option with inside-out ability.

– JUCO transfer linebacker Justin Jefferson is listed at 6-foot-1, 215 pounds. That’s still not where fans want him to be, but at least it’s bigger than the 6-0, 205 we’ve seen him listed at. Jefferson is expected to compete for a starting inside linebacker job next to Deontae Lawson. Georgia transfer Trezmen Marshall was also included (6-1, 230), but he doesn’t have a picture yet.

– The other transfer portal addition, tight end CJ Dippre out of Maryland, does have a picture though. Alabama’s official roster lists him at a whopping 6-5, 260, making him the biggest tight end on the team. Junior Robbie Ouzts isn’t too far behind at 6-4, 258. This is the size new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees covets at the position.

– There are three names included on the updated roster that might confuse fans. First of all, second-year running back Jamarion Miller is listed as “Jam” Miller. Another is five-star freshman cornerback Desmond Ricks, who is going by “Dezz” Ricks on the roster. The most confusing might by freshman offensive lineman Ryqueze McElderry, who is listed as “Roq” Montgomery.

– I think freshman defensive back Tony Mitchell is being listed at an interesting size. Despite high high school profile having him at 6-1, 205 with some saying he was around 210, the Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson product is listed at 6-2, 180. It’s possible — likely, even — that Mitchell plays safety at Alabama, but we should note that’s prototypical size for a cornerback in Nick Saban’s defense.

– Newly arrived freshman Jordan Renaud is, in fact, listed with the defensive linemen. Despite only being listed at 6-4, 245 with a lot of edge ability, most of us believe he’ll be asked to put on weight in order to play that inside-out role (like Eboigbe, Jonathan Allen and others have played at Alabama). It’s safe to say this move was expected, but this pretty much confirms it.

– Fellow freshman Miles McVay was listed at 6-6, 358. Obviously, that’s not where the big offensive lineman wants his playing weight to be, but that’s a good start after once being listed between 370-380. Granted, we don’t know if any of these height-weights are truly official, but it’s at least a good sign. We’re also not sure if McVay will start his career at tackle or guard. Long term, I believe he’ll have more upside as an inside guy. We’ll see.
