Alabama forward Derrion Reid enters transfer portal

Alabama freshman forward Derrion Reid is entering the transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos reports.
Reid was one if the highest-rated recruits in Alabama’ basketball history’s had in recent years, coming in as a 4-star and McDonald’s All-American and ranked as the No. 16 overall player in the 2024 class per the On3 Industry Rankings.
The Grovetown, Georgia native got off to a strong start this year, averaging nearly 18 minutes per game through the first 12 games of the season. His strong start was derailed by a hamstring injury that caused him to missed 12 games over a 15 game stretch throughout the middle of SEC play, and he never fully regained his spot in the rotation. He averaged just 7.5 minutes per game the final six games of the year.

On the season, Reid averaged 6.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 45 percent from the floor and 26.3 percent from beyond the arc. He also showed excellent flashes as an instinctive defender with high-flying athleticism and good size at 6-foot-8.
Reid is Alabama’s fourth transfer exit of the offseason, joining Naas Cunningham, Mo Dioubate and Jarin Stevenson.
