TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Coming off the team’s midweek bye, Alabama head coach Nate Oats opened with some negative injury news regarding freshman forward Derrion Reid. Oats said Reid will miss tomorrow’s game against Arkansas after another injury flare-up following the Georgia game.
“Derrion had a little bit of discomfort following the Georgia game,” Oats said on Friday. “You know, we had him out, brought him back, continued to increase his basketball workload. But, since we anticipate him having a long and successful basketball career, well after he’s done playing in college, we didn’t want to jeopardize any of his long term health. We’re trying to make decisions that benefit him both in the short term and long term, and we don’t want to try to use anybody just to win games.
“He’s gonna be out tomorrow, and he’ll be game-to-game moving forward until he’s able to go through a full practice and not experience any type of significant discomfort.”
Reid has missed a number of games this year battling injuries, most recently missing five consecutive games in mid-January nursing the lower body injury that has now resurfaced. He was brought back for two games, playing against Mississippi State and Georgia, but didn’t look 100 percent in either game, scoring two combined points across both outings.

On the season, the former McDonald’s All-American is averaging 7.2 points and 3.4 rebounds while playing 16.9 minutes per game.
Oats also gave an update on guard Labaron Philon, who’s been battling an ankle injury that’s affected his ability to practice. Philon was listed as a game time decision before the Georgia game and ultimately played, but scored just two points and didn’t make a shot from the field.
“I thought he looked really good (this week),” Oats said. “Today, I thought he looked great. Dioubate, Labaron getting healthier. At this point in the year, approaching the middle of February, nobody’s gonna be totally, everybody’s gonna have a little bit of something here or there. … I think Labaron will look like he’s got a lot more pop.”
