TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men’s basketball team will be without its starting center in its SEC home opener against South Carolina. Crimson Tide forward Mohamed Wague will miss Tuesday night’s home game because of a foot injury, BamaOnLine has learned.

A transfer from West Virginia, Wague has played in every game this season and has started the last eight games at the five for Alabama. The 6-foot-10, 255-pound junior forward is averaging 5.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game and is shooting 65.1 percent from the field.

Wague arrived at Alabama this summer and underwent surgery to repair a foot injury that was discovered during the physical process. He was in a walking boot for a while, even earning the nickname “Scooter Mo,” and did not play in the Tide’s preseason scrimmages. He was active for the 2023-24 season opener and played in the first 14 games, before tonight.

Alabama will likely turn to Nick Pringle, who started UA’s first six games, in the matchup with the Gamecocks. The SEC game at Coleman Coliseum will tip at 6 p.m. (SEC Network).

Oats offers postgame update on Wague

Alabama defeated South Carolina, 74-47, on Tuesday night, and Wague watched the win from the bench with his right foot in a walking boot. After the win, Nate Oats shared the latest.

“He’s kind of week-to-week,” Oats said after the game. “It’s his right foot that he had to have the surgery on. It kind of flared up. We needed to rest him. He’s been out of practice the last couple days, didn’t play tonight. We’ll see if we can get it right. We’ve got a day off tomorrow. We’ll see what we can do by Saturday.”

Alabama will next travel to play at Mississippi State on Saturday, Jan. 13.
