Alabama forward Sam Walters plans to enter NCAA transfer portal

Alabama freshman forward Sam Walters plans to enter the transfer portal, he tells On3, becoming the fourth Crimson Tide basketball player to transfer after the 2023-24 season.
Walters played in all 37 of Alabama’s games as a true freshman and averaged 12.3 minutes per game. The 6-foot-10, 198-pound forward tallied 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 42.7 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from 3-point range in Year 1.
Walters scored in double figures seven times this season with his career-high coming against South Alabama in mid-November. His best shooting performance came against his home state Florida Gators when he went 4-of-7 from three and made five total field goals. The freshman also contributed a season-high two blocks in the February game against UF.

Walters was a consensus top-100 player out of The Villages, Florida, during the 2023 recruiting cycle. He was considered the nation’s 69th-best player, the No. 10 power forward and the No. 6 player from Florida for the 2023 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. Walters chose to attend Alabama over Florida, Georgetown, LSU and Ole Miss, among others.
With Walters planning to transfer, that opens up one scholarship spot for the Crimson Tide.
