Alabama freshman Naas Cunningham enters transfer portal

Alabama freshman guard Naas Cunningham is entering the transfer portal, ESPN’s Jeff Borzello reports.
Cunningham redshirted this past season as a true freshman, not playing in any games but practicing with the Crimson Tide throughout the year.
The West Orange, New Jersey native came in as the No. 48 overall recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He was a raw prospect, but one with immense potential, at one point being ranked as the No. 1 player in his class earlier in his high school career.

He has intriguing size at 6-foot-7 with the skills of a guard, but needed to add more weight to compete in the SEC. This was the driving force behind his transfer.
“He’s got to get more physical. He’s got to put some weight on,” Alabama head coach Nate Oats said about the announcement of Cunningham’s redshirt. “With our depth, I wasn’t sure how many minutes he was going to play in some of these games.
“We still think Naas has ridiculously high upside.”
Because of the redshirt, Cunningham will have four years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.
