Alabama wide receiver Aaron Anderson has entered the transfer portal, according to a tweet from On3 national college football reporter Matt Zenitz. The freshman has yet to complete his first season in Tuscaloosa, but with all the turnover at the position, this news isn’t overly shocking.

Don’t get me wrong, Anderson’s got a lot of promising traits. At one point, many were expecting him to be the top first-year contributor wide receiver. Instead, we saw fellow freshmen Isaiah Bond, Kobe Prentice and Kendrick Law get the playing time. Shazz Preston was the only other receiver in the class to not get significant action.

Bond saw the third-most snaps at the position with 323. Prentice received multiple starts while contributing 258 snaps. Law didn’t see a lot of action early in the season, but he eventually found his way into the rotation and finished with 178 snaps. Meanwhile, we only saw Anderson play three snaps, which came against Austin Peay.

Granted, a lot of that’s due to Anderson suffering a knee injury that kept him from practicing and playing early in the year. That had some believing that he’d be able to work his way into the rotation in Year 2, but it looks like that won’t be happening. Instead, he’ll look to continue his playing career elsewhere.

Anderson is now the fourth Alabama receiver to enter the transfer portal since it opened on Dec. 3. That list includes Traeshon Holden, JoJo Earle and Christian Leary. With the Crimson Tide expected to sign one of the top wide receiver classes in the country, the impact of these losses should be somewhat alleviated.

Stay tuned for more transfer portal updates.
