TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama guard Labaron Philon was again named SEC freshman of the week, the league announced on Monday. It’s the second straight week he’s earned the honor and the third time overall this season.

The honor comes after Philon scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out five assists all without a single turnover in No. 5 Alabama’s 107-79 blowout win over then-No. 12 Oklahoma. He made 5-of-10 shots from the floor, including 2-of-5 shooting from 3-point range.

Philon came into the season as a 4-star recruit ranked in the top-40 in the 2024 class, but has outperformed all expectations throughout the season. Playing 24.6 minutes a game and with a permanent spot in the starting lineup as a true freshman, Philon is averaging 12.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, playing like one of the best freshman guards in a loaded SEC.

Philon’s play has earned him a spot on plenty of draft boards through two months of the season, and he could very well find himself as a one-and-done prospect at season’s end.
