Alabama linebacker Kendrick Blackshire has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

A junior, Blackshire has played in 24 career games for the Crimson Tide, including seven this fall. But his seven appearances in 2023 were the fewest of his 3-year tenure. Blackshire was featured in the inside linebacker rotation and continued to play on special teams. He registered a career-high 16 tackles – a career-high – one tackle for loss and one forced fumble/fumble recovery.

“I think that the big thing we work on with Kendrick is consistency in performance,” said head coach Nick Saban on Sept. 4. “When he’s locked in and focused, he plays really, really well, but you’ve got to be able to do it all the time so that you develop the kind of confidence, trust in yourself and your teammates that you need to be a consistent player overall.”

Blackshire played in nine games as a true freshman in 2021, the most of his UA career, as he carved out a role on special teams. He appeared in the first seven games of the 2022 campaign before suffering an injury that sidelined him until the Sugar Bowl against Kansas State. Over his three seasons with the Crimson Tide, Blackshire recorded 25 total tackles.

A member of Alabama’s 2021 signing class, Blackshire was rated the No. 24 linebacker and the 193rd-best overall prospect, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. Blackshire played his high school football in Duncanville, Texas, and was considered the No. 32 player from the Lone Star State for that cycle. The linebacker chose the Tide over LSU and Texas A&M.
