Alabama linebacker Shawn Murphy has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Murphy is the fourth Crimson Tide player to enter the transfer portal after head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement. Players have an additional 30-day window to transfer with a change in head coach. This comes after the 30-day window window in December.

Murphy, a redshirt freshman, has appeared in 18 games the past two seasons, including 13 this past year for the Crimson Tide. He played in five games as a true freshman in 2022, but his fifth game was the Sugar Bowl against Kansas State, which didn’t count toward this season-long total thanks to a one-year NCAA rule. In two years, Murphy recorded five tackles and one pass breakup. He contributed on special teams and as a backup last season.

Selected as the 2021 Butkus Award high school winner, Murphy was a top-100 prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. The Manassas, Va., native was the nation’s No. 65 overall recruit and the sixth-best linebacker for the 2022 cycle.
