Alabama lands special talent in elite JUCO WR Malik Benson
The month of June was good to Alabama as far as commitments are concerned. The month of July could turn out to be even better though. On Tuesday, the Crimson Tide landed its second pledge within the last 24 hours in elite JUCO wide receiver Malik Benson out of Hutchinson C.C. in Kansas.
The 6-foot, 185-pound pass-catcher chose Alabama after also taking official visits to Tennessee, Georgia, LSU and Oregon.
On3 currently has Benson rated as a four-star prospect with other recruiting services going as far as tabbing him the top JUCO wide receiver. He’s expected to play the 2022 season at Hutchinson before enrolling at Alabama this upcoming spring.
The addition of Benson comes less than a week after Alabama landed its first receiver for the 2023 cycle in four-star Cole Adams. Benson’s arrival could come at the perfect time, too, as transfers Jermaine Burton and Tyler Harrell are both rising juniors with a chance to be a one-and-done players in Tuscaloosa.

In many ways, Benson is similar to a lot of other recent Alabama pass-catchers.
His size isn’t going to jump out at you, but he brings the elite top-end speed that’s required to be a viable vertical threat. He’s also shown the versatility to bounce back and forth between the slot and boundary, which is why Alabama wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins recently compared him to Jameson Williams.
One of Benson’s former teammates at Hutchinson, tight end Miles Kitselman, is already in Tuscaloosa. I’m sure that played a role in Benson’s recruitment, but five first-round wide receivers in the last three NFL draft classes certainly didn’t hurt.
He is now commitment No. 11 for the Crimson Tide with six of those coming in the last 15 days.
