Alabama leads all schools with six on Sporting News All-America Team
Sporting News released its 2023 All-America Team on Wednesday morning, and Alabama led all schools with six players selected to the organization’s first and second teams.
Cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry and linebacker Dallas Turner were named first-team All-Americans by Sportings News, while defensive backs Terrion Arnold and Caleb Downs, offensive tackle JC Latham and placekicker Will Reichard earned second-team honors.
Sporting News is one of five outlets that determine consensus All-American status, along with the American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America and Walter Camp. If three of the organizations select a player to their first team, he earns consensus honors. If a player is named by all five, he is a unanimous selection.
With his third first-team nod, Turner is now a consensus All-American. McKinstry needs to be named an AFCA first-team All-American in order to also receive consensus distinction.
Because no player was recognized as a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Alabama will not have a unanimous All-American for the first time since 2019.
