Former Alabama inside linebacker Henry To’oTo’o has been drafted by the Houston Texans in the fifth round (No. 167 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft. He was around a little longer than some had anticipated, but he’s now found his new home after a successful career in Tuscaloosa.

With To’oTo’o off the board, Alabama has now seen nine of its players drafted through the first five rounds. In addition to To’oTo’o, that list includes three first-round picks, a second-round pick and four third-round picks. Here are the names so far:

With this pick, the Texans now have three Alabama linebackers on its roster.

They drafted Christian Harris — To’oTo’o’s inside running mate in 2021 — in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Then this year, they took Anderson in the top-3 to play out on the edge. That’s pretty wild considering Houston is now being coached by a former Alabama linebacker in DeMeco Ryans.

We should also note that former Tide receiver John Metchie III is a member of the Texans.

To’oTo’o began his career playing for the Tennessee Volunteers under former Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. After a successful two-year stint that saw him start 22 games and play 1,426 snaps. He totaled 148 tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and an interception during that span. Then, he chose to finish his college career in Tuscaloosa.

In those two years, he started 28 games while playing 1,773 snaps, including a career-high 923 in 2021. The 6-foot-1, 227-pound linebacker totaled 205 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and a forced fumble during that time, too. As good as he was as a player, it was his willingness and ability to be an effective communicator as Alabama’s defensive field general that was the most impactful.

Coming out of De La Salle High School in Concord (Calif.) in 2019, To’oTo’o was rated as a four-star recruit. He also checked in as the No. 64 player nationally, No. 7 linebacker and No. 11 player from the state of California, according to the 2019 On3 Industry Rankings.
