Alabama loses another player to the transfer portal in Xaver Williams
Update: Xavier Williams has committed to Utah State.
Alabama has now seen two players enter the NCAA transfer portal in under a week. First, it was cornerback Marcus Banks, who entered the Monday after the LSU game. Now, it’s wide receiver Xavier Williams.
On3 college football reporter Matt Zenitz was the first on the news.
The news of Williams entering the portal shouldn’t be all that surprising. The redshirt junior hasn’t been playing this season due to a medical issue, according to coach Nick Saban back in August.
In fact, Williams hasn’t even been listed on Alabama’s roster.
“Ziggy has some medical issues that’s keeping him out,” Saban told reporters before the season. “Without saying what, he’s medically not going to play this year.”
Coming out of high school, Williams was rated as a four-star prospect, according to the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 177 overall player, No. 34 wide receiver and No. 29 player from the state of Florida.

Williams entered a wide receiver room in 2018 that included four future first-round talents in Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle. In other words, it was always going to be difficult to get on the field early.
Still, he was never able to get his playing time where he wanted it. Last season, he caught the first pass of his career, but he only has three career catches for 24 yards.
The medical condition that prevented him from playing for Alabama this season is unknown, but it looks like the former Chaminade-Madonna Prep standout will look to continue his career elsewhere.
