TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama’s official depth chart for its SEC opener against Ole Miss had one change compared to the first three weeks of the 2023 football season, and it matches what head coach Nick Saban announced in his first press conference of the week Monday.

Jalen Milroe is now alone at the top of the quarterback line. Prior to Saturday’s matchup with the Rebels, the four quarterbacks on the depth chart – Milroe, Tyler Buchner, Ty Simpson and Dylan Lonergan – were separated by three ORs. Now, there are no longer any ORs, and Simpson is listed at No. 2 ahead of Buchner and Lonergan, respectively.

This move comes after Saban named Milroe the starter to begin the week.

“Jalen really showed the leadership that I was looking for during the game in terms of supporting his teammates and doing the things he needed to do,” Saban said on Monday. “He’s had the opportunity to play. So has the other guys. Jalen played the best of all those guys, and so I think he’s earned the opportunity to be the quarterback.”

Milroe started the first two games of the season, but Saban told ESPN he promised all three quarterbacks he would give them chances in games. Upon finding this out, Milroe was “initially frustrated” and did not play at South Florida, but the redshirt sophomore showed the kind of leadership Saban wanted to see and is now back in the Alabama starting lineup.

Quarterback, however, was the only area that changed on Alabama’s Week 4 depth chart. All of the other positions remained the same as they had been for the previous three weeks.

Below is UA’s complete depth chart for its Week 4 game against Ole Miss, ORs and all.
