Alabama center Seth McLaughlin has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

McLaughlin, a senior, has played in 36 career games and made 25 starts at the center position in his four years with the Crimson Tide. After stepping in for Darrian Dalcourt each of the last two seasons, McLaughlin opened the 2023 campaign as the No. 1 center and started all 14 of Alabama’s games. However, snapping issues plagued the veteran offensive linemen early on and showed up again in the Tide’s Rose Bowl semifinal loss to Michigan.

“With anything, it takes preparation, whether it’s pass protection, whether it’s the running game, the passing game,” said quarterback Jalen Milroe after the game. “The quarterback and the center have to have a great relationship and that’s something that we tried to build throughout the whole season. There’s a multitude of things that me and Seth talk about in that regard. That’s something that we do talk about.”

McLaughlin could have returned to Tuscaloosa for a fifth season but is moving on instead. He did earn two degrees, however, during his time at Alabama, including a master’s degree last month. He was awarded the Rose Bowl Scholar-Athlete Award while in California.

A native of Buford, Ga., McLaughlin was rated as a 3-star recruit in the 2020 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. The now 6-foot-4, 305-pound senior was considered the nation’s No. 24 interior offensive lineman and 441st-best overall player in his recruiting class.
