Alabama CB Eli Ricks arrested on Sunday evening in Mississippi
Alabama cornerback Eli Ricks was arrested in Laurel, Miss. on Sunday evening for charges of speeding, no insurance and possession of marijuana in the first offense, according to the inmate roster for the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.
His bond was set at $0.
Ricks, a transfer defensive back from LSU, is expected to compete for a starting job opposite former five-star cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry. In fact, he’s still considered the favorite in that looming competition with Khyree Jackson considering his pedigree coming out of high school and his success in Baton Rouge.
He’s rated as the No. 9 overall player and No. 1 cornerback in the On3 Transfer Portal rankings.
Ricks spent a portion of spring practice working in a black, non-contact jersey as he worked his way back from a shoulder injury suffered last season. But by Alabama’s second scrimmage, he seemed to be back to full strength and even participated in the annual A-Day Game on April 16.

The most important thing for Ricks, according to head coach Nick Saban, is Alabama’s system.
“The biggest thing for Eli is learning the system,” Nick Saban said after the spring game.
“He’s like a guy that just got here. So for him to be able to learn the system, and sometimes it’s even more difficult for guys that have played in a system because they knew a system and now they have to sort of intercalate some of the things they are doing with some of the things we are doing. They might have been told something different, so you have to work through that learning curve with them. But, he’s a very conscientious guy and works hard at it, he takes coaching well and wants to please.”
In two seasons at LSU, Ricks played in 14 games.
He totaled 31 tackles during that time to go along with 5 interceptions — 2 of which were returned for a touchdown — and 6 pass deflections. His 4 interceptions as a true freshman in 2020 landed him a spot as a third-team All-American by the Associated Press.
