An Alabama quarterback has done it yet again. For a third time in four years, a signal-caller donning the Crimson and White has been named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

On Monday, Bryce Young was one of four finalists, in addition to Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett, Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud and Michigan pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson, named for the prestigious award, which goes to the top overall player in college football.

Young making the list should not come as a shock. In fact, the sophomore gunslinger out of California is considered the heavy betting favorite to win the award outright.

His record-setting performance against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game all but solidified his standing. Young set the record for most passing yards (421) and total yards (461) while having a hand in all four of the team’s touchdowns.

Really, Young’s attendance in New York was never in question. And after Saturday’s performance, neither should his stronghold on the award. Instead, it’s more about who was going to attend the award alongside him.

Through 13 games, Young has completed 68% of his passes for 4,322 yards, 43 touchdowns and only four interceptions. His 9.4 yards per attempt is tied for sixth-best in the nation, and he’s also added three touchdowns on the ground.

It’s criminal that Will Anderson wasn’t named as a finalist though. As important as Young has been for Alabama’s offense, Anderson has been equally as important for the defense.

The sophomore has been a terror for opposing offensive lines all season.

In his first six games, Anderson accumulated 39 tackles — 9.5 of them for a loss — to go with 3.0 sacks and 4 quarterback hurries. Solid numbers, but his last seven games have been something else entirely.

  • 52 tackles
  • 20.5 tackles for loss
  • 12.5 sacks
  • 4 QB hurries
  • 2 pass deflections

The actual Heisman Trophy ceremony will be revealed at 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET) on Saturday, Dec. 11. It will air on ESPN.

Alabama is set to take on No. 4 Cincinnati (13-0, 8-0 AAC) in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Dec. 31. The game will take play at the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Tex.
