Alabama QB Dylan Lonergan plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal
Alabama quarterback Dylan Lonergan is expected to enter the transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos reports. Lonergan is the 11th Crimson Tide player to transfer in the 20-day window.
Lonergan, a redshirt freshman, has appeared in two of Alabama’s regular-season games this fall. The Crimson Tide’s third-string quarterback, Lonergan played in the season opener against Western Kentucky and then threw for 23 yards on 5-of-6 passing against Mercer. He played in one game as a rookie in 2023, throwing for 12 yards against Chattanooga.
A 4-star recruit out of Snellville, Georgia, Lonergan was considered the nation’s No. 162 overall prospect in 2023, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was rated the No. 13 quarterback and No. 13 player from Georgia and chose UA over South Carolina and Stanford.

Lonergan was one of four scholarship quarterbacks on Alabama’s 2024 roster, along with Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson and Austin Mack. Milroe could move on after the season ends, as well, and the Tide signed 5-star quarterback Keelon Russell during the Early Signing Period. That would leave Alabama’s quarterback room for the 2025 season with three players.
The 20-day portal window opened on Monday, December 9, and will close on Saturday, December 28. Due to a later bowl game, Alabama players will have five extra days to enter.
