Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe confirmed he will return to Tuscaloosa to quarterback the Crimson Tide in 2024, he revealed during his weekly appearance on The Next Round.

“I’m coming back for my senior year,” said Milroe, a redshirt sophomore, on Thursday.

Since not playing at South Florida in Week 3, Milroe has played better and better, leading the Tide to 10 straight wins. Finishing sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting, Milroe will be one of the early favorites to win college football’s top award next year. Not only will Alabama welcome back one of its top players, but it will also return one of its team captains.

Milroe has thrown for 2,718 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions on 171-of-261 passing (65.5 percent). Milroe hasn’t thrown an interception in his last three games and has the SEC’s second-best passer rating (177.48, 4th nationally) behind Heisman winner Jayden Daniels. He is also second in the SEC and nation with an average of 10.4 yards per attempt.

The Alabama quarterback has also been effective on the ground with 468 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 140 carries. Milroe ranks fourth in the SEC in rushing scores and 10th in carries entering the postseason matchup with No. 1 Michigan in the Rose Bowl semifinal.

While it’s good news that Milroe will be back behind center in 2024, his focus is still on this year and the Crimson Tide’s playoff game against the Wolverines on Jan. 1 in Pasadena.

“You’ve got to recognize that they’re undefeated and undefeated for a reason,” Milroe said on The Next Round. “They play hard. The guys in the box … the linebackers and the D-linemen are really good. They play hard, do a lot of stunts and stuff like that. So it’s going to be a challenge for us on offense, but we’re excited for that.

“And I think the biggest thing with this team that I’m proud of is that we embrace hard, and that is something that we’re going to have to embrace going into this game. We hold the four quarters for games like this because we didn’t sign up for 30 minutes. We signed up for 60.”
