Alabama QB Julian Sayin intends to enter NCAA transfer portal
Alabama freshman quarterback Julian Sayin intends to enter the transfer portal, per ESPN.
Sayin is the 10th Crimson Tide player to plan to enter the transfer portal after head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement. Players have an additional 30-day window to transfer with a coaching change. This comes after the 30-day window window in December.
Sayin was the highest-rated recruit in Alabama’s 2024 signing class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was the nation’s No. 5 overall prospect and the top-rated quarterback.
As a senior at Carlsbad (Calif.) High School, Sayin threw for 2,347 yards, 24 touchdowns and just one interception on 158-of-212 (74.5 percent) passing. He also rushed for 186 yards and four more scores while leading Carlsbad to its fifth straight Avocado League title. Sayin finished his high school career with 7,824 yards, 85 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
“Julian is an outstanding player,” Saban said last month. “The ball comes out of his hand really nice. He’s accurate. He’s smart. He’s had a great high school career, and he’s been one of the best players, most productive players in the country on a very consistent basis. We like him a lot.

“I tell all players, ‘You’ve really got to focus on your development. That’s the most important thing. What are you going to become?’ And I think he’s got the right mindset to do that.”
Sayin is the third Crimson Tide quarterback to enter the transfer portal since the Dec. 4 window opened. Alabama still has four scholarship quarterbacks after Washington transfer Austin Mack committed to the Tide on Thursday. Mack is already on campus in Tuscaloosa.
