Alabama receives lowest preseason AP Poll ranking since 2008
The preseason AP Poll was released on Monday morning, and Alabama came in ranked No. 8 to begin the program’s second season under head coach Kalen DeBoer.
It’s the lowest preseason AP ranking for the Crimson Tide since 2008, when the team came into the season ranked No. 24 in Nick Saban‘s second year in Tuscaloosa. That year, the team went 12-2 and finished the year ranked No. 6.
Alabama starts the year three spots lower than it did last season, when it began DeBoer’s first year ranked No. 5 in the preseason poll. The Tide finished last season with a 9-4 record, its worst record since 2007, finishing at No. 17 in the final AP Poll of the year.
There are 10 SEC teams ranked in the preseason poll, with Alabama being the third-highest of them. The Tide comes in behind No. 1 Texas and No. 5 Georgia, while ahead of No. 9 LSU, No. 13 South Carolina, No. 15 Florida, No. 18 Oklahoma, No. 19 Texas A&M, No. 21 Ole Miss and No. 24 Tennessee

Unsurprisingly, Alabama again has one of the toughest schedules in college football for the 2025 season. The schedule features five ranked teams: Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
Alabama’s first game of the 2025 season will take place on Aug. 30, opening the season facing Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida. The game will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
