Happy Thanksgiving to all! The Alabama Crimson Tide` has a lot to be thankful for on the recruiting front as it currently has the No. 1 class in the country according to the On3 Sports Consensus Team Rankings.

Reasons why Alabama fans should be thankful regarding the Tide’s recruiting efforts this holiday season include:

Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien

The offensive line class

Commitments who can make an immediate impact

Success in enemy territory

An extra week to recruit

Alabama won’t play in the SEC title game this year. That’s not how most envisioned things before the start of the season or prior to the LSU game. The Tide will end its regular season on Saturday. It will have a team banquet and await its bowl game destination. Coach Saban has mentioned every time during preparations for the SEC Championship the fact that you miss a week on the recruiting trail. He gets to hunt a little earlier this year.

The contact period will run between December 2-17. The Early Signing Period is December 21-23. Schools are allowed six in-person off-campus contacts per athlete, but not allowed to visit more than once in a calendar week (Sunday-Saturday).

Coach Saban will take full advantage of the extra week. The plan is to get back to the SEC Championship and College Football Playoff. You have to fill needs and get players who can make a major impact in the program. Alabama may have the best class right now. The plan is to have the No. 1 class at the end of the ESP. There are some very tough recruiting battles ahead whether it’s in-state, out-of-state or trying to hang on to commitments.

Once the Iron Bowl ends- recruiting season will shift into high gear. Alabama is disappointed it won’t play for the SEC title, but knows it can use the extra week to try and close its top remaining targets.
