The Alabama Crimson Tide added yet another key piece to their 2024 class today. On Wednesday, Nick Saban and Company beat out Georgia and LSU for coveted signal caller Julian Sayin.

Sayin is the No. 14 overall prospect in his class and is the second-ranked player at his position. That is according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. With that high ranking, Sayin’s commitment provided a significant boost to the Tide’s standing in the recruiting rankings.

Today’s announcement led to Alabama leapfrogging Georgia and Notre Dame in the 2024 On3 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings. They now sit at No. 2 behind Ohio State, which holds a commitment from top-ranked junior Dylan Raiola. Bama’s class score is 94.655 (0.527 ahead of Georgia), while the average rating of their commits is 93.94.

Besides Sayin, the Tide’s 2024 class features some of the top players in next year’s recruiting cycle. Jaylen Mbakwe (No. 12 overall) is their highest-rated pledge, while Perry Thompson (No. 126) and Martavious Collins (No. 139) are also in the fold.

Alabama may add even more talent to their 2024 class soon. In-state defensive targets Kavion Henderson (Nov. 6) and Sterling Dixon (Dec. 1) are each set to announce their commitments in the coming weeks.

Julian Sayin details why he chose Alabama

Leading up to this decision, there was speculation as to whether Sayin would choose Alabama or LSU. Georgia was essentially eliminated after landing Ryan Puglisi last month. Also, Sayin’s only game day visits were to Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa.

So, how was Bama able to come out on top for Sayin today?

“It was a really tough decision,” Sayin told On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons. “With the relationship I have with LSU — notably the coaching staff there — I’m really comfortable with them, so it was definitely a tough decision. You can see the future at LSU with what they’re building and it’s somewhere that is definitely going to be back on top soon. But Alabama, with Coach Saban, he’s going to hold you to the highest standard and that’s what I want to be a part of.

“I want to go somewhere where I’m going to get coached hard, but they’re going to expect excellence.”

Sayin admitted that the Tigers were leading for him up until a few weeks ago. It was his visit to Tuscaloosa from Oct. 22-23, however, that turned the tide in his recruitment.

A big reason why Alabama received a pledge from Sayin on Wednesday was the presence of Bill O’Brien.

“The things he can be able to teach me about protections, everything that he knows about NFL systems and stuff like that, is going to be a big help to me,” Sayin said. “I’m excited to get into that.”

With his commitment out of the way, Sayin’s focus has shifted to Carlsbad High School’s upcoming playoff run. He told Simmons that he is considering a visit for the Iron Bowl, but that trip is not set in stone.
