TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The highest-rated recruit in Alabama’s 2024 signing class is quarterback Julian Sayin, the nation’s No. 5 overall prospect per the On3 Industry Rankings.

Among the 23 high school players who officially signed with the Crimson Tide on Wednesday, Sayin is a roster addition that 17th-year head coach Nick Saban likes “a lot.”

“Julian is an outstanding player,” said Saban after Wednesday’s Rose Bowl practice. “The ball comes out of his hand really nice. He’s accurate. He’s smart. He’s had a great high school career, and he’s been one of the best players, most productive players in the country on a very consistent basis. We like him a lot.

“I tell all players, ‘You’ve really got to focus on your development. That’s the most important thing. What are you going to become?’ And I think he’s got the right mindset to do that.”

As a senior at Carlsbad (Calif.) High School, Sayin threw for 2,347 yards, 24 touchdowns and just one interception on 158-of-212 (74.5 percent) passing. He also rushed for 186 yards and four more scores while leading Carlsbad to its fifth straight Avocado League title. Sayin finished his high school career with 7,824 yards, 85 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Sayin is already on campus in Tuscaloosa as one of several signees who enrolled early. Going through Alabama’s bowl practices, the former 5-star joined a position room that has five scholarship players, and the starting quarterback shared his thoughts on the newcomer.

“I’ve been in his shoes, being a freshman that’s coming into college, and all I can try to do is try to give him the information I’ve got and really try to allow him to be a sponge for the information I have and be a good teammate for him,” Jalen Milroe said. “With him, he spins the ball really well. It’s been really good to have in the room, have another guy in the room and with everything, I’m just appreciative to have another brother in the room.

“He’s doing a really good job practicing, and he’s a good dude.”
