Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson is now heading to Houston. On Thursday night, the Texans took the star pass rusher at No. 3 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, making him the second Crimson Tide player selected. Just two picks earlier, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young went No. 1 overall to the Carolina Panthers.

Anderson was near unstoppable during his three seasons at Alabama.

He was a Day 1 starter who was productive in every way. Whether it’s against the run or the pass, the former five-star recruit finds a way to affect offensive game plans. In three years, he totaled 204 tackles, 58.5 tackles for loss and 34.5 sacks. That’s an average of 68 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks.

All that was while playing during the shortened COVID season in 2020, too.

Not only is Anderson a phenomenal player, but he’s an even better person. From the time that he arrived on campus until helping Alabama win the Sugar Bowl 45-20 over Kansas State, he always had the right mentality and the right approach. That’ll fit in great with former Alabama linebacker DeMeco Ryans, who’s a first-time head coach with the Texans.

Anderson will also be reunited with former Crimson Tide teammates in wide receiver John Metchie III and linebacker Christian Harris, who Houston drafted in the second and third rounds respectively in 2022.

Surprisingly, Anderson wasn’t the first player selected by the Texans. They held the No. 2 pick and took Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud at that spot. That had many believing that Anderson would end up going to the Cardinals at No. 3, but Houston made a deal to move all the way up from No. 12 to No. 3 to land their new star pass rusher.

What a moment for Anderson.
