TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 2 Alabama (1-0) will face Arkansas State (1-0) tonight in its second game of the 2024-25 season. The Crimson Tide will host the Red Wolves at Coleman Coliseum at 7 p.m. CT, and the non-conference game will stream online via SEC Network+.

Alabama will welcome a familiar face back to Tuscaloosa tonight in Arkansas State head coach Bryan Hodgson, who is in Year 2 in Jonesboro after spending the previous eight with Nate Oats at Alabama and Buffalo. Last year, Hodgson led ASU to its first 20-win season, and prior to this season, the Red Wolves were picked to finish first in the Sun Belt conference.

Alabama dug in on both ends and used a quick 7-0 run in less than two minutes (1:55) to increase its lead to nine points. Immediately after a Latrell Wrightsell layup, ASU head coach Bryan Hodgson called a timeout to try and rally the troops for the final four minutes.

Arkansas State used an 11-1 run to tie the game at 68-68 with 7:08 to play. Mo Dioubate snapped that streak after cleaning up a missed Wrightsell 3-pointer. The Red Wolves had hit four of their last five from the field before Dioubate moved the Crimson Tide back in front.

Threes not falling for Alabama

11/08/2024 08:44:00 PM

Alabama is one for its last 16 from 3-point range, including a 1-for-10 start to the second half. Meanwhile, the Tide is 8-of-12 inside the arc in the first 8-plus minutes out of intermission. Grant Nelson, Clifford Omoruyi and Jarain Stevenson all made nice plays at the rim.

Wrightsell sinks a much-needed 3

11/08/2024 08:32:01 PM

Alabama had missed 10 straight 3-point tries before Latrell Wrightsell knocked down a much-needed triple. Neither team has shot it well from beyond the arc, but that hasn’t stopped them from trying. Before the Wrightsell make, UA and ASU were both 4-of-20 from deep.

Turning into a free throw-fest

We’re up to 30 fouls (15 for both teams) and 51 free-throw attempts at the under-4 media timeout … of the FIRST half. Alabama leads by 11, but three Crimson Tide players have at least three fouls, with Jarin Stevenson picking up his fourth in just seven minutes of game action.

A-State cuts Alabama’s lead to 10

11/08/2024 07:40:54 PM

The Red Wolves trimmed the Tide lead to 10 points with back-to-back buckets and will have a chance to make it a single-digit deficit (for the first time since the 12:39 mark) with a trip to the free-throw line after the under-8 media timeout. The A-State free-throw attempt was good.

Alabama struggling at the FT line

11/08/2024 07:15:21 PM

The Crimson Tide feels in control of this game, but it could be by a lot more. UA is already in the bonus thanks to eight ASU fouls before the under-16 media timeout but is just 4-of-9 from the free-throw line to this point. Alabama is out-rebounding the Red Wolves, 8-1, early.

Same starters vs. Arkansas State

11/08/2024 07:05:06 PM

Nate Oats went with the same starting five from the season opener for game No. 2 against the Red Wolves. Grant Nelson, Latrell Wrightsell and Aiden Sherrell will once again be on a minutes restriction but are expected to play more than they did the last time out, Oats said.

Starting five: Mark Sears, Labaron Philon, Derrion Reid, Jarin Stevenson and Cliff Omoruyi
