TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 10 Alabama (7-2, 4-2 SEC) will face Mercer (9-1, 6-1 SoCON) at Bryant-Denny Stadium this afternoon. The game will kick off at 1 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

The Crimson Tide and Bears will meet for the fifth time in series history. Alabama has won all four previous matchups, including the most recent pairing on Sept. 11, 2021, which finished at 48-14. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer has never faced the Bears in his head coaching career, while Mercer coach Mike Jacobs will be taking on the Tide for the first time.

Nicholson extends the Alabama lead

Alabama quickly moved into Mercer territory thanks to a 45-yard pass from Jalen Milroe to Germie Bernard. But the Crimson Tide didn’t get much closer than that as Graham Nicholson trotted out to attempt a 45-yard field goal. He made it to extend the Alabama lead.

Alabama’s offense went three-and-out, posting its first drive that didn’t end in a score up to this point. Mercer needed four plays to score its first points of the game and did so in impressive fashion. Wide receiver Kendall Harris hauled in a 31-touchdown pass with one hand.

Officials threw a flag for holding on a 25-yard Mercer gain, but DaShawn Jones forced a fumble that was scooped up by true freshman Zabien Brown and returned 66 yards for a touchdown. It was the first non-offensive touchdown of the season for Alabama.

Russaw’s interception gave the ball back to the Alabama offense and led to more points for the home team. The Crimson Tide went for it on 4th and 1, picking up the first with Jalen Milroe’s legs. Then the quarterback looked deep for a wide-open Robbe Ouzts, who hauled in a 44-yard score.

Ryan Williams scores his second TD

Alabama went up by two scores thanks to Ryan Williams’ second touchdown of the game. This one was a short pass from Jalen Milroe, and the 14-yard receiving TD was set up by a block by Germie Bernard, who took out two defenders to give Williams a clear path to the end zone.

Forced fumble leads to first Tide TD

Penalties plagued Alabama’s defense early, especially on what appeared to be a third-down stop. But Domani Jackson forced a fumble and Damon Payne recovered it to get off the field. Four plays later, Ryan Williams scored the first touchdown of the game on a 29-yard run.

Alabama right guard Jaeden Roberts is in uniform but is watching pregame warmups from off to the side. He left last week’s LSU game with an injury. Geno VanDeMark is warming up with the first unit.
