TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer provided an update on linebacker Keanu Koht, who did not travel with the Crimson Tide team to LSU this past weekend.

“He wasn’t with us, and he’s suspended right now,” DeBoer said on Monday. “I’m not gonna get into length or anything like that, but he won’t be with us this weekend.”

A redshirt junior, Koht did not travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana this past weekend, marking the second game he hasn’t played this fall. He also did not play at Tennessee. In seven games this season, Koht has five tackles and half of a sack in his fourth year at Alabama.

Koht redshirted in 2021 and then played seven combined games as a backup in 2022 and 2023. With Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell turning pro, Koht had a path to the field in Year 4 but has been the team’s third Wolf linebacker behind Que Robinson and Qua Russaw.

Robinson is now out for the rest of the 2024 season due to an upper-body injury he sustained in the win at LSU, and Koht’s absence makes the Crimson Tide’s Wolf depth even thinner. Russaw and Yhonzae Pierre are the only returning players at the position. Alabama has two freshmen, Noah Carter and Jayshawn Ross, but they have played in one total game.

A native of Vero Beach, Florida, Koht was a 4-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. He was rated as the No. 39 overall player, No. 4 linebacker and No. 10 player from the state of Florida, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He ultimately chose Alabama over LSU.
