Alabama's Grant Nelson, Mark Sears on coaches preseason All-SEC team
The Southeastern Conference unveiled its 19th annual men’s basketball coaches’ preseason All-SEC first and second teams Thursday, and Alabama had two second-team selections.
Senior forward Grant Nelson and senior guard Mark Sears both landed on the All-SEC second team, and the Crimson Tide was one of five schools with multiple players recognized, joining Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas A&M. In all, 36 different players received votes for the coaches’ teams, but as seen below, only 16 players made the two preseason teams.
Per the SEC, the coaches’ preseason All-SEC first and second teams consist of a minimum of eight players on each squad, voted on by the SEC basketball coaches. No ties were broken.
Sears returns as the Tide’s second-leading scorer from last year’s team that won the SEC regular-season and tournament titles. However, the veteran guard has been sidelined in both preseason games due to a groin injury. Nelson joined the Alabama program this offseason from North Dakota State, where he earned first-team All-Summit honors in 2023.
