Players Alabama can’t lose to the portal – QB Ty Simpson

Simpson is expected to battle it out with Jalen Milroe this spring to see who replaces Bryce Young. Unless Alabama signs a veteran signal-caller from the transfer portal, retaining Milroe will be equally as important. If he elects to go elsewhere, it’d leave the Tide with only one redshirt freshman and two true freshmen in the QB room.

From that standpoint, Milroe might actually be more important because he has the most experience, but Simpson is an elite talent that Alabama can’t afford to lose. If you want to win on any level nowadays, you have to get effective play at the quarterback position.

Simpson has only played 30 snaps so this season, but his five-star talent remains evident when watching him on tape. Alabama wants to get back to running more of an RPO centric offense with Young leaving, and Simpson is more than capable of handling those responsibilites. He’s got the arm strength, mobility and overall feel of the game needed to be a top player at his position.

There’s potential here for Alabama to have another future first-round pick in Simpson, if he can develop.
