Spring stand outs – RB Justice Haynes
Haynes has only been on campus for a few months, but that hasn’t stopped the No. 2 RB from the 2023 recruiting cycle from generating noteworthy buzz. We had heard good things about him during the Sugar Bowl practices back in December, and the praise continues to pour in. When Nick Saban was asked about Haynes on Saturday, here’s what the Alabama coach had to say:
“Justice has had a great spring. He’s a really good player. He’s a really mature guy. He’s really smart. Nothing’s really too big for him. He goes out there and competes, and if you are just a guy sitting on a log watching, you would never know he’s a freshman. So he’s a very talented guy. He can make cuts. He can make you miss. He’s got some power, good speed. He’s a good receiver. So he’s done a really, really good job all spring.”

Haynes doesn’t just possess elite talent. There are three words that stand out to me the most from Saban’s comments: 1) mature 2) smart and 3) competes. The power, the speed, the cuts … all that stuff is great, and they’re all things that’s going to help Haynes get on the field early. But those three descriptions are what will take him from good to great.
So what will his role be this season? That’s a question we don’t quite have an answer to … yet.
I’m having a hard time imagining a scenario where Haynes isn’t involved in the rotation. In fact, I’ll even go one step further. I understand that Alabama has an impressive stable of runners that includes two seniors — Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams. It’s likely one of those two is your starter, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Haynes got a similar workload. I also won’t completely rule out a featured role.
A source told BamaInsider after Saturday’s scrimmage that Haynes is “absolutely the real deal.”
