FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Some of the most coveted high school football prospects in the nation are set to participate in one of the top 7-on-7 events of the season. Recruits from coast to coast, including a trio of Alabama commitments, are slated to take part in this weekend’s Battle Miami 7-on-7 event.
Battle Miami 7v7 Live Updates and Intel
While the name of the tournament is Battle Miami, the games will be played at Mills Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale.
BamaInsider provides a full breakdown of all the noteworthy recruits who are heading down to South Florida. We will have live updates with recruiting nuggets and observations during both days of the tournament (Saturday and Sunday).
Alabama commits Jaylen Mbakwe, Julian Sayin and Perry Thompson heading to South Florida
Alabama’s fan base would love to see Sayin throwing to Thompson over and over again this weekend. That won’t be the case, however, as Sayin is a part of the Raw 7v7 team, while Mbakwe and Thompson is a part of Trillion Boys.
Raw is scheduled to begin play at 2:30 p.m. Central against Team Tampa. They’ll then play games at 3:00 p.m. (vs. Team Flex) and 3:30 p.m. (Gridiron Elite) to wrap up their Saturday slate of contests.
As for Trillion Boys, their first game isn’t until 7:00 p.m. when they take on Premium Gas. They’ll continue playing every half hour, with their other two contests being against KT Preps and 24K Gold.
Sayin is coming off a season in which he threw for 2,695 yards on 69 percent completion and 27 touchdowns. That stellar 2022 campaign caught the attention of Ohio State, which offered the nation’s No. 4 quarterback on Tuesday.
Sayin, who committed to Alabama on Nov. 2, spoke with BamaInsider’s Andrew Bone about that offer and if he has interest in the Buckeyes. You can read about that, as well as his commitment to Bama, HERE.

As for Thompson, he also put forward a strong junior year as he hauled in 87 catches for 1,059 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those 87 catches broke the Foley school record for receptions in a season, previously held by Julio Jones.
The top-100 prospect visited Auburn last weekend, and is still being recruited by other schools.

Jaylen Mbakwe missed the final few games of his junior season with a knee injury, which required surgery. Even so, Mbakwe will be out at this weekend’s 7-on-7 event participating with Thompson and the Trillion Boys.
Mbakwe recently received offers from Colorado and Penn State, but remains solid in his commitment to Alabama.

Other recruits to pay attention to at Battle Miami
Besides those two aforementioned Bama commits, there are other noteworthy names who will be lacing up the cleats in Fort Lauderdale this weekend.
On3 National: Previewing Battle Miami’s kickoff 7v7 event (names of teams and players included)
That list includes KJ Bolden, the No. 4 overall player on the 2024 On3 Consensus. Bolden is on Thompson’s team with Trillion Boys, which also features recently offered wide receiver Aeryn Hampton. Bolden and Hampton are both high on Alabama at this time.
Another elite defensive back that the Tide are pursuing who will be at Battle Miami is Charles Lester. Lester is a member of South Florida Express, which features recent Bama wide receiver offers Chance Robinson and James Madison, as well as elite pass catcher Joshisa Trader (Alabama has offered).
One of the players that Sayin will be passing the ball to on the Raw team is Mazeo Bennett, an Alabama target who attended the program’s Jan. 14 junior day. On the other side of the ball is five-star 2024 cornerback target Ellis Robinson and Anquon Fegans, a 2025 safety target out of Thompson High School.
Other teams we’ll keep an eye on are Defcon1 and Texas Flex. Decon1 features top-10 running back Stacy Gage and top-five safety Zaquon Patterson, while Texas Flex has No. 6 safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell; all hold offers from the Crimson Tide.
Phenix City (Ala.) pass catcher Cameron Coleman will also be in South Florida, and is on the 24K team. The top-30 wide receiver does not hold an Alabama offer, but has been on campus multiple times.
Some additional prospects with Alabama offers we’ll be monitoring are 2024 running back Anthony Carrie, 2024 athlete Fred Gaskin, 2024 receiver Terrance Moore, Florida State commit Jordan Pride, 2025 quarterback Cutter Boley, and elite 2025 receiver Jaime Ffrench.
