Big Ten DB transfer, former top-100 recruit commits to Alabama
The Alabama Crimson Tide have made yet another a key addition via the NCAA Portal, their second of the week.
Following the departures of Peyton Woodyard and Tony Mitchell, Bama added to the safety position group on Friday. King Mack, a transfer from Penn State, announced his commitment to Kalen DeBoer‘s program just a few moments ago. His decision was made days after stepping foot on Alabama’s campus for a weekend visit with the program.
Mack is an interesting addition for the program as he was a high-profile recruit just a year and a half ago. As a prep prospect, Mack was the No. 93 overall recruit in the 2023 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He was also the No. 8-ranked safety and a top-25 player in the state of Florida.

Mack will arrive at Alabama with three years of eligibility remaining after playing one season with the Nittany Lions. At Penn State last year, Mack appeared in all 13 games, primarily in special teams coverage. He recorded three solo tackles (two solo) in limited action last year.

The addition of Mack marks yet another win for Bama’s football program in the transfer portal.
Prior to Nick Saban’s retirement, the Tide added Domani Jackson, LT Overton, and Naquil Betrand via the portal. In January, DeBoer and his new staff landed Washington transfers Austin Mack, Germie Bernard, and Parker Brailsford. They would go on to add championship-winning safety Keon Sabb and another Huskies transfer, Josh Cuevas, a month later.
In the spring portal window, Alabama has successfully dipped into the portal for a familiar face in Kadyn Proctor, as well as Lou Groza Award winner Graham Nicholson, Kameron Howard, and now Mack. Wake Forest cornerback transfer DaShawn Jones committed to the Tide on Wednesday.
That brings their total transfer portal additions number up to 13 since late December.
Bama also has another transfer on their radar in former Michigan State offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark. VanDeMark, who will have two years of eligibility remaining, played for Alabama OL coach Chris Kapilovic with the Spartans.
