The best offensive line class in the country? The University of Alabama received a commitment on Sunday from a Top 10 overall player. He is also the highest ranked recruit committed to the Crimson Tide in this cycle. Ty Haywood, five-star offensive tackle from Ryan High School in Denton, Texas, made the call. He is the next major addition for Coach Kalen DeBoer on this historic recruiting run in Year 1.

The addition of Haywood not only gives Alabama the best positional class in the ’25 class, but it also moved the Tide ahead of Ohio State (as of now) as the No. 1 overall recruiting class in the country.

Haywood is commitment No. 22, and the fifth offensive lineman to join the Tide’s class since June 11. Alabama OL coach Chris Kapilovic, along with (football) general manager Courtney Morgan, have been significant factors in constructing the class which features three players who rank among the top 26 overall players in the On300.

The No. 2 recruit in Texas is originally from Mississippi. He grew up a fan of the Crimson Tide. Haywood had not, however, visited Alabama until his official visit on May 31-June 2. Haywood also took official visits to Texas A&M and Florida State. A visit to Oklahoma was canceled due to a family health related issue.

“They have a great, winning culture over the years,” Haywood told On3 regarding his decision. “They are always winning and they are like a family. I saw the smile on my mom’s face when we were there. It was a clue that she was thinking, ‘This is where my son should be…’ I was praying for a long time for God to show me where I needed to be. When I got into the facilities, people were overwhelming with love and it was a family atmosphere.”

The Sooners was considered a heavy favorite for the 6-foot-5, 297-pound lineman prior to the start of official visits. Alabama was a dark horse in his recruitment with knowledge of his early childhood fandom, but also Coach Kap, who started recruiting Haywood during his first month at Baylor prior to accepting the same position as the OL coach at Alabama.

“They have some good offensive linemen. Coach Kapilovic is a good offensive line coach,” Haywood said. “I’m pretty sure he’s going to develop those players to be where they need to be and get them to the next level; not only because it’s Bama, but because he’s a great person and a great coach.”

Alabama also has commitments from Michael Carroll, five-star interior OL and Jackson Lloyd, offensive tackle, who ranks as the No. 26 overall player in the On300. In-state linemen Micah DeBose (Prichard-Vigor) and Mal Waldrep (Phenix City-Central) complete the Tide’s incredible offensive front.

The Crimson Tide has been the hottest team in the country on recruiting trail since early June. Haywood is the fourth five-star commitment in Alabama’s class joining QB Keelon Russell (Duncanville, Texas), WR Caleb Cunningham (Ackerman, Miss-Choctaw County) and CB Dijon Lee (Mission Viejo, Calif.).
