Chris Youngblood played like his South Florida self vs. Texas A&M
Alabama guard Chris Youngblood scored a season-high 14 points in the Crimson Tide’s road win over Texas A&M on Saturday night. He was one of three Alabama players to make multiple 3-pointers in the 94-88 victory, along with Mark Sears and Aden Holloway.
Playing in his seventh game since missing the start of the 2024-25 season because of injury, Youngblood had his best shooting night in a crimson uniform after an up-and-down start.
“It’s the best feeling,” Youngblood said after the game. “But what really helped me do that was just get lost in the game, focus on the blue-collar points. And I knew if I focused on that, the offense, that’ll come.”
Youngblood was 4-of-7 from the floor, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and a perfect 3-of-3 on free throws on a night where Alabama missed 13 at the line. He also added five rebounds during his 18 minutes of game action, which was likely limited because of foul trouble.
A transfer from South Florida, Youngblood returned to his hometown of Tuscaloosa having shot 40 percent or better from three in each of his last three seasons. But prior to Saturday’s game in College Station, Texas, he had only made eight of his first 32 3-point attempts in his previous six as a member of the Crimson Tide and no more than two in a game.
Youngblood had made two 3-pointers in a pair of games this season, including a 2-of-9 output against Kent State. But in his last three games, the fifth-year senior was 3-of-14 from deep.

His three triples were more of what Nate Oats envisioned when Youngblood committed.
“Oh, so good,” Oats said of shots starting to fall for Youngblood. “We knew what we were getting with him from South Florida. He was the conference player of the year. He shoots it at a really high clip. He just had to get off that surgery and get himself back comfortable.
“I told him he was gonna be able to get some shots this game. And we tried to kind of put him up with the press to have some other guys handle it, get him open. He goes 3-of-6, and he made a bunch of tough plays, too. He’s a winner. He’s a competitor. He’s a leader. You want him in.”
While his offensive production jumped out in the box score, Oats was also complimentary of the defensive showing from Youngblood, who was often matched up on A&M’s Zhuric Phelps.
“I thought he did the best job on Phelps tonight, and that’s with him still not 100 percent because he’s still trying to get back from the ankle surgery,” Oats said. “So his competitiveness, his winning attitude, and then, boy, it was great to see him drop some shots tonight.”
