The Alabama football team exited Week One of the college football season with an impressive 44-13 win over Miami in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. On Monday, the coaching staff selected seven Players of the Week based on their performance against the Hurricanes.

Of the seven players, four of them came on offense, two on defense and one on special teams. We’ve included that breakdown below:

Offense

OL Darrian Dalcourt: Didn’t allow a sack or pressure

TE Cameron Latu: Hauled in three passes for 43 yards and two TDs

WR John Metchie III: Led team in catches (6) with 76 yards and a TD

QB Bryce Young: Broke multiple passing records for QB making debut

Defense

OLB Will Anderson: Led team in tackles (9) with a sack and 5 QB pressures

CB Jalyn Armour-Davis: Helped hold Miami to only 179 yards passing

Special Teams

K Will Reichard: Didn’t miss a kick (3 FGs, 5 PATs) with long of 51 yards

With Jameson Williams hauling in four catches for a team-leading 126 yards, some may be surprised to see Metchie as the Player of the Week. However, statistics don’t tell the entire story, and Metchie played extremely well.

That holds true for Armour-Davis as well. Yes, the redshirt junior gave up a couple of catches. But in today’s college football, that’s to be expected. He showed real value in coverage. Slowly, he’s emerging as a quality starter opposite Josh Jobe.
