TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – ESPN’s College GameDay crew took over the Quad side of 6th Avenue on Friday morning. The desk that college football fans will see on Saturday, Sept. 28, was set up with Denny Chimes in the background, awaiting one of the season’s top games.

GameDay is in town for the top-five matchup between No. 4 Alabama (3-0) and No. 2 Georgia (3-0), which is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC. Ahead of the highly-anticipated contest, members of the GameDay crew spoke to Tuscaloosa-based reporters to preview the marquee game, including host Rece Davis and analyst “Stanford Steve” Coughlin.

Davis, a University of Alabama alum, was excited to be back on campus for the big game.

“Very much so, especially for a game like this,” Davis said. “It’s always great to be here.”

“It feels like there’s a little bit of history in the making. I said it this way today – they signed Kalen (DeBoer) to a contract. He won over the team. He’s certainly the boss inside the building. But to college football at large, he becomes the head coach at Alabama tomorrow night.

“And I think this grand stage for these two powerhouses, it’s a great thing to be a part of for us.”

GameDay’s trip to Tuscaloosa for the Georgia game will be Alabama’s 59th overall appearance on ESPN’s pregame show, tied with Ohio State for the most all-time. The Crimson Tide is 37-21 in the last 58 appearances. College GameDay traveled to UA’s campus twice last year and was at the SEC title game and Rose Bowl. Alabama was 2-2 in those contests.

Saturday’s game between Alabama and Georgia will be the first for head coach Kalen DeBoer. While UGA’s Kirby Smart is not new to the rivalry, it will mark his first time facing Alabama with Nick Saban not on the other sideline. Saban, who retired in January, is part of GameDay’s crew and will be joined on set by his wife, Miss Terry, who will be the guest picker.

Both Davis and Coughlin discussed the game, DeBoer and Saban with reporters on Friday.
