Countdown to Alabama football fall camp: 15 Dallas Turner
Countdown to Alabama Football Fall Camp is a daily countdown leading up to the kick-off of 2023 Fall Camp in Tuscaloosa. Beginning 99 days out from that day (which is a guess based on historical precedent as Alabama has not announced the start of camp) we will count down each day until we get to 1. Corresponding with each day, we will discuss the career of the current Alabama player that sports the jersey number of that specific day, i.e., 31 days before the start of camp will be Will Anderson Day. If the day/number is not worn by a player on the current Alabama roster we may assign a true freshman summer arrival with said number for countdown purposes. Or, skip a day. It’s summertime, relax. But relax knowing fall camp is just ____ days away.
Two weeks and one day away! And what better way to celebrate that mathematical fact than discussing perhaps the second-best edge player in all of college football, Dallas Turner.
We know who the best one is and having him on the other side of the formation is quite beneficial to Turner. And vice versa. Having one is a luxury. Having both is unfair but that’s just too bad. Sorry.
Dallas’ freshman season was every bit as impressive as Will Anderson’s. Especially when you consider he didn’t really play significant snaps until late in the year. His impressive statistical performance is all the more crazy because those numbers were basically accumulated in a small handful of games. And those games were against the premium competition that a playoff team faces late in the year.
How about 30 tackles, 10 TFLs, and 8.5 sacks? Again, that would be really impressive for a true freshman who started every game. What were Will’s freshman numbers? Keep in mind, in his freshman season, he started games all season long. He played many, many more snaps than Dallas. His stat line was 52 tackles, 10.5 TFLs and 7.0 sacks. Doesn’t that make Dallas’ numbers even more incredulous?
Now a full-time starter, Turner’s numbers will rise just as Will’s did in Year 2. They will be perhaps the most formidable duo in all the land. Turner, similarly to Anderson, is an impressive kid. Smart, driven, with great leadership qualities.

He is yet another big Saban success story. It’s a privilege just to ever have a Will Anderson. Alabama might have two at once.
It’s not too surprising that Turner is this good. The On3 Consensus ranked Dallas the 9th best prospect in the country, the 2nd best edge prospect, the 3rd best prospect in Florida. He is a product of the outstanding program at St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale. He lived up to the hype, to say the least.
His career at Alabama is off to an incredible start. It will likely end with a stroll across a stage and a hug with the Commissioner. Don’t turn on the Draft late that night. Dallas will be there early and not for long.
What’s your over/under on the number of sacks accumulated by Dallas and Will in 2022? Keep in mind, last year it was 26. They are a year older. Assuming good health, I think 32 is highly realistic. Which is NUTS. Let’s discuss it on the BamaOn3 Message Board.
Ty Simpson also wears 15. More on him later today or tonight.
