Alabama fans have been anxiously awaiting news regarding a new addition in the secondary via the transfer portal. The wait has ended with Crimson Tide securing a commitment from former Wake Forest cornerback, DaShawn Jones. He was one of two defensive backs to visit Alabama this weekend. He did not leave town without informing Coach Kalen DeBoer of his decision (officially announced on Wednesday).
Jones was considered a highly-coveted prospect when he entered the portal on April 30. Alabama was one of several schools to make contact right out of the gate, and he quickly scheduled a trip to Tuscaloosa. He visited the Capstone on Saturday and Sunday with both of his parents.
The commitment is certainly positive news in the secondary as the Crimson Tide previously only had five scholarship cornerbacks (via the BOL Roster Tracker) after spring practice. Alabama secured another transfer corner in former USC starter Domani Jackson, who chose to remain with the new staff after Coach Saban’s retirement.

Jones received an in-home visit from LSU (defensive backs coach Corey Raymond), while also speaking with coaches from Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech and Liberty. A visit to Baton Rouge was previously considered prior to his announcement. He will no longer visit the Tigers.

The 6-foot, 181-pounder (per Wake Forest official athletic site), will enter his redshirt junior season this fall. He had 37 tackles, three interceptions, two pass break-ups and 1.5 tackles for loss in 2023.
Alabama added another commitment recently from Kameron Howard, former UNC-Charlotte safety. Former Michigan safety Keon Sabb also transferred to Alabama earlier this year. The Crimson Tide are possibly not finished in its DB pursuit as former Penn State safety King Mack, who enters his sophomore season this fall, took an official visit this past weekend, and has been predicted by BOL to Alabama.
Others who have joined UA via the portal during the off-season have included: QB Austin Mack (Washington), WR Germie Bernard (Washington), TE Josh Cuevas, OL Kadyn Proctor (Iowa), Parker Brailsford (Washington), Naquil Bertrand (Texas A&M), DL LT Overton (Texas A&M) and Kicker Graham Nicholson (Miami-Ohio).
