Decision Day: Alabama looking for first 2025 TE commitment
In the first week of July, some of the nation’s top prospects have lined up dates for when they will announce their college decisions.
One of those is West Coast pass catcher Kaleb Edwards, who will announce his commitment on Tuesday afternoon. Edwards was thorough in his recruitment as he took official visits to all six of his finalists over the past couple of months. He is currently the second-highest-rated uncommitted tight end in the nation, behind Andrew Olesh, who is also planning to commit this month.
BamaOnLine has all the details you need to know ahead of Edwards’ upcoming commitment.

Edwards and members of Bama’s staff have a longstanding connection
The relationship between Edwards and Alabama’s current staff goes back a year and a half.
In January 2023, Edwards landed an offer from Nick Sheridan, who was Washington’s tight ends coach at the time (now Bama’s offensive coordinator). His only other offers to that point were San Jose State and Nevada. He would go on to take a visit to Seattle for the Huskies’ spring game that April.
Nearly a year later, Edwards was back on campus for another one of Kalen DeBoer‘s program’s spring games. He made his way out to Tuscaloosa for A-Day on April 13 this year, which led to an offer from the Tide. A couple of months later, the El Dorado Hills, California, recruit took his official visit to Bama starting on June 17.
Edwards has thought highly of DeBoer and his staff for quite some time. He is also building a good relationship with tight ends coach Bryan Ellis.
“I love it there,” Edwards recently told On3’s Eric Nahlin of Alabama. “Had a super good connection with Coach [Nick] Sheridan when he was at Washington, and then now Coach [Bryan] Ellis at Alabama has just carried over. I had visited Washington twice with that [Kalen DeBoer] staff. They had two tight ends get drafted and I think they combined for 1200 snaps or something crazy like that. A lot of 12 and 11 [personnel].”

BamaOnLine’s recruiting staff has submitted our predictions for Edwards’ recruitment – HERE.
If Alabama was to land Edwards on Tuesday, then they’ll be getting one of the top players in the nation at the position. Edwards is a Top 150 overall prospect, and the No. 5 tight end in the 2025 On300. He’s also the No. 9 player in the state of California.
A commitment from Edwards would give the Tide pledges from four of the top 10 recruits in the state of California this cycle. The current commits who are top 10 in the state are Chuck McDonald, Dijon Lee, and Jackson Lloyd.
Alabama currently holds the No. 2 spot in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Their class size is, as of publishing this article, 20 prospects.
