Earlier this week, Alabama’s football staff was rewarded with commitments from two priority targets. Now, on the day of their SEC opener, the Crimson Tide men’s basketball program could also be in for a key victory of their own.

On Saturday afternoon, Richmond (Va.) Word of God Christian Academy product Davin Cosby will announce his decision. Cosby, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound shooting guard, has tabbed Alabama as one of his four finalists.

BamaInsider provides commitment details for today’s announcement, as well as a look at what the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine says.

One team appears to have the edge for 4-star SG Davin Cosby

The Crimson Tide began their official pursuit of Cosby less than three months ago when they offered him on July 8. Since then, they’ve maintained consistent contact, hosted Cosby on campus for an official visit, and cracked both his top seven and his final four.

With decision day upon us, it appears that the efforts of Nate Oats‘ staff will pay dividends.

The On3 RPM currently gives Alabama a 92.9 percent chance of adding Cosby to their 2023 class. That number is fueled by a prediction made by On3 National Basketball Recruiting Analyst Jamie Shaw, who has a confidence level of 90 percent on his pick.

So, why have the Tide positioned themselves well for Cosby’s commitment today?

First of all, the staff has been relentless in their pursuit. Assistant coach Antoine Pettway was in to see Cosby at midnight on the first day of the basketball recruiting period (Sept. 9). Oats stopped by his practice later that day, and also returned less than a week later on Sept. 15.

Also, Alabama knocked it out of the park with Cosby during his official visit from Sept. 1-3. Cosby, who has also taken officials to each of his other finalists, felt like a priority on that trip.

“On the basketball side, talking to the whole staff was good,” Cosby told BamaInsider after his visit. “Talking all together. It was not just a few coaches; it was all of them. The weight room and the building they have with their facilities is great. Definitely something I can use. Also, the way they practice was competitive, and that’s what I like.”

It’s clear to see why Alabama and over two dozen other schools have dipped into the mix during Cosby’s recruitment. Per On3’s 2023 rankings, Cosby is the No. 90 overall prospect, the No. 18 shooting guard, and the fourth-ranked senior in the state of North Carolina this recruiting cycle.

The Tide are hoping to add Cosby to bolster a 2023 class that already features top-100 prospect Sam Walters and also in-state guard R.J. Johnson. BamaInsider will have full coverage if Alabama ends up being the pick for Cosby this afternoon.
