Derrion Reid update: Nate Oats offers latest ahead of LSU game
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama head coach Nate Oats initially thought the worst-case scenario for Derrion Reid would be a return to action against LSU. But on Friday, Oats provided the latest on the freshman forward, who has missed the last three games.
“He’s still not full-go in practice,” Oats said. “It’s one of those deals where we thought he’d be back a little quicker, but as the injury goes on, we’re not gonna push it to where he’s not out. So I don’t know.
“We play at night tomorrow, so I think he’ll get a workout in tomorrow morning to see how he feels. But he’s not a for-sure, he’s not in. I think he’ll probably be listed as questionable, would be my guess, tonight.”

Reid is dealing with a lingering lower-body injury.
Reid has played in 15 of Alabama’s 19 games this season, missing the South Dakota State, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Vanderbilt contests. The true freshman has started three times this year, including the first two games of the Crimson Tide’s 2024-25 season, and is averaging 8.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the field.
Alabama (16-3, 5-1 SEC) is already without guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr., who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in November. Senior guard Houston Mallette has also missed time due to lingering knee issues. UA could seek medical redshirts for both players.
Alabama will welcome LSU to Coleman Coliseum on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (SEC Network).
