TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama head coach Nate Oats provided a positive update on freshman forward Derrion Reid, who has missed the last two games because of a nagging injury.
Previewing Saturday’s clash with No. 1 Auburn, Oats shared how Reid is progressing.
“Derrion Reid has finally been able to do some live stuff in practice,” Oats said on Friday. “He was able to do some live stuff today. We’ll see how he looks tomorrow morning. I’m sure he’ll be a game-time decision, but he looks a lot better than he has at any point in the last month or so.
“So that’d be good if we get him back.”
Reid has played in 17 of Alabama’s 24 games this season, missing seven because of injuries. He has watched from the bench in six of the Crimson Tide’s 11 conference matchups. The true freshman is averaging 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest and is shooting 42.0 percent from the floor while playing 16.9 minutes per game in his first season.
Alabama will already be down three scholarship players against Auburn, as Latrell Wrightsell (Achilles), Houston Mallette (knees) and Naas Cunningham (redshirt) will be out. Should Reid miss a third consecutive game, the Crimson Tide will be down to nine healthy players.
