Jim Carabin, vice president and general manager of Crimson Tide Sports Marketing, announced the addition of Tyler Watts as the color analyst for the University of Alabama football games in 2023.

The Crimson Tide Sports Network radio crew will have Eli Gold back in the broadcast booth handling the play-by-play duties for all Alabama home games while Chris Stewart will call the action for the Crimson Tide’s road contests.

Watts will replace John Parker Wilson as the color analyst, who is stepping away from the booth after five years on the broadcast. Watts, who played in 35 career games as quarterback from 1999-2002, threw for 3,540 yards and 20 touchdowns in a Crimson Tide jersey.

Fromer Alabama outside linebacker Christian Miller returns to the broadcast team for his second season to handle sideline reporting duties for all Crimson Tide games.

The 2023 CTSN broadcast team will make their debut when Alabama opens the season on Saturday, Sept. 2, when the Crimson Tide welcomes Middle Tennessee to Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Saban happy to have Gold back in the booth

This preseason, Alabama coach Nick Saban was asked about Gold returning to the booth after missing the entire 2022 season due to health issues and an eventual cancer diagnosis.

“I love Eli,” Saban said. “He’s been with us for a long time. He’s kind of part of the tradition around here in terms of the expectation of being the voice of the Crimson Tide network in a lot of ways, whether it’s a radio show or whatever it is. I’m just happy for him and his family that he’s getting healthier, he’s able to get around and he’s going to be able to get back and do what he loves doing.

“We’re going to do everything we can to support him and even though it may not be 100 percent full-throttle, sort of working him back into it. But I’m excited to have him back because I love working with him.”
